Located in the foothills of the sacred “Koyasan”, the foothills “Koya-Sanroku”, where many people have come and gone since ancient times, are home to a variety of specialties and specialties cultivated by history and climate. “Kishu Herazao”, which is designated as a national traditional craft, domestic stuffed animals made from the world-famous “Koyaguchi Pile” fabric, and “Kakinoha-zushi”, a traditional food loved by locals… We have prepared a number of experience programs that allow you to come into contact with valuable local resources that are unique to this area. Some of the local products made by customers themselves can be taken home as they are. Why don’t you make your own special trip memories while receiving direct guidance from experts at the sacred place “Koyasan” and the foothills “Koya-Sanroku”?

Making “Kishu Herazao” (traditional bamboo fishing rod)

You can enjoy learning how to make the traditional craft “Kishu Herazao”, just like a traditional craftsman teaches his disciples carefully. You can experience the important production process of making rods, shaving the tips, and making bamboo accessories! Why don’t you try to make your own “Herazao” as if you were a disciple of a traditional craftsman?

Mamaking teddy bears

Hashimoto City, located at the foot of Koyasan, is a major production area for “pile fabric,” a fabric woven with wool. In Hashimoto City, there is one of the few 100% domestic stuffed toy makers in Japan that uses local pile fabrics. How about making a one-of-a-kind teddy bear for yourself or as a gift for someone special?

Making “Wagashi”(Japanese traditional sweets)

Founded in 1911, this long-established Japanese confectionery store offers one-on-one instruction from the 4th generation owner about how to make “wagashi”, for example, classic dorayaki and nerikiri, as well as exquisite fruit daifuku made with seasonal fruits.

Forging Japanese swords

“Japanese swords” that Japan boasts to the world. You can observe the craftsmanship of a young swordsmith who has a training dojo in Amano, a historical village related to Kobo Daishi “Kukai”. The force of hitting the heated iron with a mallet is truly a masterpiece! You can also experience making a small sword while being taught by a craftsman.

Making “Kakinoha-zushi”(traditional sushi wrapped in persimmon leaves)

“Kakinoha-zushi” has been loved as a local dish of Wakayama and Nara. In Japan, many people are familiar with it as a souvenir. In this experience, you can learn the history of kakinoha-zushi and how to make it directly from the famous president of a long-established kakinoha-zushi company that has stores in various places. You can make the taste of that famous store with your own hands and take it home.
